Arizona State secures another cornerback in the transfer portal

The Sun Devils now have lots of options in the secondary

Earlier on Monday, Arizona State landed a former 5-star cornerback via the transfer portal, nabbing Nyland Green from Purdue. Just a few hours later, they bolstered their cornerback depth even more with Green’s teammate, Kyndrich Breedlove.

Arizona State will mark the fourth team the Tennessee native has played for and, with one year of eligibility remaining, his last. Breedlove was rated as a 4-star athlete coming out of high school when he committed to Ole Miss. He entered the portal after redshirting his first year on campus, but opted to stick around.

However, one year later he entered the portal again, this time picking Colorado not long after they hired Deion Sanders as head coach. Following a rough 2023 campaign, Breedlove transferred to Purdue, but saw the Boilermakers fire their head coach after finishing 1-11.

Despite the dismal season for Purdue, Breedlove finally got a chance to play, starting every game for the Boilermakers. He ended up leading the team in interceptions with three. However, Breedlove also allowed completions on 70% of his targets and gave up the fourth-most yards after catch in the Big 10.

The Sun Devils return both of their starting cornerbacks from 2024 in Keith Abney and Javan Robinson, but they lacked depth behind them after losing Keontez Bradley and Cole Martin to the transfer portal and dismissing Laterrance Welch. They also are losing slot defender Shamari Simmons to the NFL Draft.

Adding both Green and Breedlove give Arizona State two experienced options for depth while also allowing defensive coordinator Brian Ward to try moving either Abney or Robinson around next year. Given the way Arizona State’s secondary got carved up by Quinn Ewers in the College Football Playoff, these two additions should go a long way towards giving the Sun Devils more opt
