Rafael Nadal’s uncle Toni claims the Spaniard would have added another Wimbledon title if not for Roger Federer
Rafael Nadal’s uncle Toni believes Roger Federer prevented his nephew from winning another Wimbledon Championships title. Despite Nadal’s two Wimbledon wins out of 22 Grand Slams, Toni praised his ability to excel under pressure without the Swiss’ elegance.
“My nephew is very talented, because he is the player who has hit the best in uncomfortable positions, although he does not have the elegance of Federer,” he told Diarios de Bicicleta (via ESPN).
The Spaniard’s former coach noted that the ‘Big 3’ era enhanced their development but also limited their title counts, arguing Nadal would have claimed another Wimbledon if not for the Swiss.
“What is truly extraordinary is that the three best in history have coincided at the same time. It has helped them, but the competition also took away their trophies. If Federer had not been there, Rafael probably would have won one more Wimbledon,” he added.
