Maple Leafs Head Coach Craig Berube Identifies Top Performer in Win Over Dallas
The Toronto Maple Leafs came out of Dallas with 2 points after a 5-3 victory and head coach Craig Berube was very clear in who he felt was his team’s MVP in the win.
On night where, once again, the Leafs were heavily out-shot in the first period, the team needed their goalie to be at the top of his game, and Joseph Woll was certainly up to the task.
Woll made 36 saves on 39 shots on Wednesday, cruising to a .923 SV% on the evening, and the 26-year-old was tested often in this one, including this grade A scoring opportunity for Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen.
Following the game, Leafs bench boss Craig Berube was very complementary of Woll, calling his goaltender the Leafs’ best player of the evening.
With Anthony Stolarz currently sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks after undergoing a surgical procedure on his knee, the Leafs will be relying heavily on Joseph Woll to carry the weight in goal. He’s off to a pretty good start.
As far as who we should expect to back Woll up in Stolarz’s absence, there is some talk that Matt Murray could be recalled after a shutout victory in the AHL on Wednesday. Until that happens, however, it appears to be the Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby show.
