Lane Kiffin Trolls South Carolina After Transfer Portal WR Cancels Official Visit
Although the Ole Miss Rebels aren’t technically rivals of the South Carolina Gamecocks, this behavior might eventually result in something more than interconference banter.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin shared a Gamecocks article on social media discussing an impending visit from Harrison “Trey” Wallace III, a former Penn State wide receiver who entered the transfer portal on Jan. 15.
However, Wallace canceled his visit to South Carolina and instead visited Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Louisville and North Carolina.
The reasons for the cancellation of his South Carolina visit are not known. The Gamecocks have the No. 13 transfer portal class per On3Sports’ team rankings, with 13 incoming transfers.
(Update: Wallace would later commit to Ole Miss.)
Wallace was the Nittany Lions’ leading wide receiver last season, catching 46 passes for 720 yards and four touchdowns. Over his three seasons at PSU, he had 84 catches for 1,221 yards and six scores. On3Sports rates him as a four-star transfer portal player, ranking No. 71 overall.
South Carolina has added no wide receivers via the transfer portal. However, four receivers have exited the program: Debron Gatlin (Georgia Tech), Payton Mangrum (East Carolina), Tyshawn Russell (Syracuse) and CJ Adams (uncommitted).
The Gamecocks have signed several receivers in their 2025 recruiting class, including Malik Clark (rated 146th nationally), Lex Cyrus (236th), Jordan Gidron (242nd), Donovan Murph (291st), Brian Rowe (374th) and Jayden Sellers (1,039th). Jayden is the brother of LaNorris Sellers, the Gamecocks’ starting quarterback.
On Dec. 1, in the middle of the College Football Playoff seeding process, Kiffin shared a box score screenshot of Ole Miss’ 27-3 win earlier in the 2024 season. He then replied to a Gamecocks fan, “Spot the ball.”
