Nottingham Forest have identified four players they must sell as the club look to embark on a fire sale of fringe players.
That is according to Football Insider journalist Daniel Bowers, speaking to Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
English clubs must demonstrate their account figures on Sunday 30 June to abide by PSR rulings, with Forest sanctioned with a points deduction last season.
This time around, owner Evangelos Marinakis and the Forest hierarchy are doing their utmost to offload certain squad players in order to avoid further consequences.
Forest are believed to be seeking a fee in the region of £4m for local lad Worrall, 27, whilst it is uncertain what it would take to prise away their remaining transfer-listed talent.
Nottingham Forest in race against time for fire sale
Bowers has pointed out what failing to sell the quartet could mean for Nottingham Forest, and what effect it could have on Marinakis at the club as well as boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
Should Forest fail to raise at least £20m from player sales in the next 48 hours, a points deduction is highly possible.
Another alternative would be to sell a talismanic figure from the squad, such as Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo or Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Former England, Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson exclusively told Football Insider [28 June] that the club may even weigh up the harder hit of whether a points deduction could be worth it when balanced with what the team’s key players can do for their points total next season.
With a mini-deadline day approaching, Forest are likely to be in considerable trouble if they cannot raise the funds in time.
