The trade concluded last year between the Montreal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals has just been officially completed.
It is always interesting to see what becomes of the draft picks acquired in a trade, and here is what became of those acquired in the Joel Edmundson trade.
Logan Sawyer and Makar Khanin for Joel Edmundson
Let’s recall that Edmundson, 31, was traded from Montreal to Washington on July 1, 2023, in exchange for a 3rd-round pick and a 7th-round pick in 2024.
We can now put names to these acquired picks.
With the 3rd-round pick, Kent Hughes and his associates selected Logan Sawyer.
He is a forward who was named the most valuable player of the latest BCHL playoffs, after scoring an impressive 7 goals and 8 assists (15 points) in 12 games. He has a very good “hockey IQ” and is very fast.
And with the 7th-round pick, Kent Hughes and his associates selected Makar Khanin.
Khanin, 19, is a 5-foot-11, 161-pound forward. He tallied 27 points in 35 games this season in the VHL.
These are the two young players that the Montreal Canadiens ultimately acquired in exchange for Joel Edmundson.
This completes the cycle of this trade, and these are two names we will be watching closely in the coming years.
Do you think this is a good move by Kent Hughes?
