The Toronto Maple Leafs officially have their latest Head Coach, and at the World Championship, captain John Tavares has reacted to the huge news.
On Friday, the Maple Leafs finally announced Craig Berube as their newest Head Coach, and after a big win against Finland, John Tavares has now commented on the massive hire for the first time.
“I’m excited to work with him. He’s got a tremendous pedigree. [General manager Brad Treliving] sent a quick note out to myself as well, just about the excitement of bringing him in and how he can help our group. That process has already begun and we’re looking forward to having him.”
After working with Sheldon Keefe for the past five years, it makes sense that Tavares would have mixed emotions about a new coach, but with the reputation Berube brings to the table, the team should be excited about a new direction. Tavares and the entire city of Toronto are looking towards a Stanley Cup, and it appears their captain is confident that Berube can help them take that next step.
Berube clearly has the passion and the Stanley Cup experience, and now the 58-year old takes over one of the toughest jobs in the NHL with all the pressure in the world, so now we look towards the summer where the Leafs are expected to make some big changes to their lineup.
