Terrell Suggs, Darren Woodson snubbed from 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class
Two out of three eligible Sun Devil finalists didn’t meet the required threshold to be enshrined in Canton, Ohio this August.
The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class was announced at the NFL Honors award show in New Orleans on Thursday night ahead of Super Bowl LIX. Out of 15 finalists from the modern-era category, only four reached the 80 percent voting threshold to be elected into immortality.
Jared Allen, Eric Allen, Antonio Gates and Sterling Sharpe were honored as the next inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place in Canton, Ohio ahead of a preseason game in August.
Arizona State fans may recognize one of those names. Eric Allen was a cornerback in Tempe from 1984-87 and set the school record for both interception return yards in a game (129) and in a season (185) as well as tied the record for pick-sixes in a single year (2) during the 1987 season.
Selected in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft, Allen became a six-time Pro Bowler and is the only player in league history to run back three or more picks for a touchdown in two separate seasons. Fun fact: His rookie year he played in the famous “Fog Bowl” with the Philadelphia Eagles and then his final game before retiring was the infamous “Tuck Rule” game with the Oakland Raiders.

Unfortunately, ASU alums Terrell Suggs and Darren Woodson did not earn enshrinement this year. This was Sugg’s first year of eligibility while Woodson has been waiting an absurd 17, three straight now as a finalist.
Suggs (2000-02) still owns the career and single-season school records for most tackles-for-a-loss, and set the NCAA record for most sacks in a season with 24 in 2002. He went on to be selected 10th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in 2003 where he earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2011 and then won Super Bowl XLVII the following season.

Woodson (1988-91) was a walk-on in Tempe his freshman year but he quickly impressed, becoming a team captain in his senior year. After being selected in the second round of the 1992 draft by the Dallas Cowboys, Woodson won three Super Bowl titles with “America’s Team.” He was a five-time Pro Bowler and earned first-team All-Pro honors on three separate occasions.
It’s a shame neither made it into this year’s class but that isn’t to say any of the four inductees were undeserving by any means. With newly eligible names like Drew Brees, Frank Gore and Larry Fitzgerald coming in 2026, it’ll be even harder for either Suggs or Woodson to see a path to enshrinement in their future.
