BYU recruit AJ Dybantsa is torching the high school circuit

AJ Dybantsa continues to prove to the world that he’s the best player in his class.

Every few years, a basketball player arises and stands out from his peers. A supreme talent. A legendary figure. A generational basketball player. A BYU Cougar. AJ Dybantsa of Utah Prep is one of these players. With lethal leaping ability, a taste for scoring, and the size, strength, and IQ to put it all together, AJ is a truly special player, and the clear top player in his class.

These types of players don’t play basketball at BYU… At least they didn’t in the past.

AJ Dybantsa shocked the basketball world last year by announcing his commitment to spend his year of college eligibility at Brigham Young University, a school and program that shifted gears under head coach Kevin Young with the intention of leading the way for NBA preparation, NIL capability, and (hopefully) talent level.

Following the commitments of Dybantsa, Xavion Staton (now his teammate at Utah Prep), and Chamberlain Burgess, BYU basketball will not look like the same program from even 3 years ago after Kevin Young has fully converted the program to his vision.

Still playing through the high school circuit, AJ Dybantsa is keeping BYU fans excited in the same way anyone keeps a large body of white people happy–he’s playing the hits.

Dropping 44 points and 49 in consecutive games is enough to make the Cougar faithful salivate.

Though his 49-point explosion was overshadowed by Darryn Peterson’s 58-ball (we’ll see more of him at Kansas next season), AJ continues to show that he’s not just a long, athletic frame in basketball shoes. He’s a three level scorer capable of taking the defender off the dribble, finishing through contact at the rim, or simply lifting off and launching a 3-pointer over the outstretched arms of the defense below.

A generational talent is heading to BYU, and his high school tape is only getting more ridiculous by the day.
