Former Florida coach Steve Spurrier had a surprising take on Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show at Super Bowl LIX

It doesn’t matter who the performer is (except maybe Prince, I think we can all agree that was incredibly awesome performance back in 2007), opinions on the Super Bowl halftime show divide the country every single year.

Every single year, social media is littered with posts about how much folks hated the halftime show, while others proclaim how brilliant it was.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show during Super Bowl LIX was no exception as there were plenty of strong opinions voiced from both sides.

On Monday, during an appearance on Another Dooley Noted Podcast, former Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier laid out his opinion on the show. Spurrier, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, noted that he’s a fan of Lamar’s music.

The head ball coach, however, felt like the halftime show went a little long.

“I liked about the first three minutes of it,” said Spurrier. “But then he sang the same thing for 15 minutes. I think his music’s really good. A lot of people love it. But it just seemed like it went a long time.”

Lamar didn’t sing many of his biggest hits, which was the source of most of the constructive criticism sent his way.

Not everyone is going to be a fan of every halftime show. And that’s more than understandable — there are plenty of options, ranging in diversity, to pick from each year for the halftime show. No single option can appease everyone.

But credit to Spurrier for not being overly negative. We’ve got enough of that flying around on the internet every day as it is. There’s no need to add to it — especially when it’s about a performance that’s already happened.
