ASU football’s Cam Skattebo headlines PFF’s top 101 college players

Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo was near the top of the list in Pro Football Focus‘ top 101 college players from last season.

Skattebo was placed at the No. 4 spot on the list just behind Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty and Cam Ward.

Skattebo took college football by storm down the stretch of Arizona State’s remarkable season. He will forever be remembered for his amazing three touchdown (one as a passer) performance against Texas in an instant classic playoff game where he left it all on the field. Skattebo finished second among RBs in rushing yards (1,712) and PFF grade (93.2), only behind Ashton Jeanty this season. His 543 receiving yards were also third most at the position.

Skattebo led the ASU rushing attack as he averaged 131.6 rushing yards per game which was good for fourth in the nation and was second in total rushing yards with 1,711 yards.

He had 21 rushing touchdowns, three receiving touchdowns and one passing touchdown. The do-it-all running back finished fifth in Heisman voting as well.

Cam Skattebo not only ASU Sun Devil on the list

Redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt in his first season comes in at No. 48 as he threw for a total of 2,885 yards with 24 touchdowns and only six interceptions.

He was eighth in the Big 12 in total passing yards and seventh in total passing touchdowns last season.

Leavitt showed his dual-threat ability as he rushed for 443 yards and five touchdowns on 110 carries.

He was also named by On3 as the top college football quarterback heading into 2025 just last month.

The Michigan State transfer found a nice home in Tempe this year, leading the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff. Leavitt will be remembered for the gutsy performance he gave against Texas in the double-overtime loss. Even though it wasn’t Leavitt’s best game throwing the ball, he showed a level of heart and toughness that every program in America would love to have in their quarterback.

Closing out the Sun Devils’ portion of PFF’s list was wide receiver Jordyn Tyson at No. 61. Tyson had 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Colorado transfer eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his college career. Tyson’s total receiving yards were good for 16th in the country and fifth in the Big 12.

Tyson’s 91.8 receiving yards per game average was good for 12th in the FBS.

He did this in only 12 games after suffering a collarbone injury against Arizona in the final regular-season game.

It was a shame we didn’t get to see Tyson suit up against Texas because he really would’ve helped Sam Leavitt and put pressure on the secondary. Nevertheless, Tyson had a phenomenal year before going down in the Arizona game with a shoulder injury. Tyson was able to crack both the 1,000-yard and 10-touchdown mark in what was his final game of the season. His 83.3 receiving grade is top-20 in the nation. Leavitt has to be thrilled that Tyson will return next year, as their chemistry should improve even more.
