Jayson Jenkins, Tennessee DL, to enter transfer portal following solid sophomore season
Jayson Jenkins is leaving Tennessee and will enter the transfer portal for the 2025 season, his agency told Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247Sports on Monday.
The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Jenkins had 9 tackles, 3 of them solo, 2 sacks and a forced fumble in 2024 as a rotational player for the Volunteers. He was anticipated to have a bigger role next season in Knoxville but now will be someone else’s gain next fall.
Jenkins is the 2nd player to enter the portal for the Volunteers since their loss to Ohio State in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday night. Defensive back Christian Harrison announced he was heading to the portal on Sunday, so the Volunteers have lost 2 defensive players in the 2 days since their 42-17 loss to the Buckeyes in Columbus.
The redshirt sophomore is a New Jersey native who had spent the past 3 seasons at Tennessee. During that time, Jenkins appeared in 20 games, with the most of his career coming this past fall with 13. Jenkins posted a combined 15 tackles, a pair of sacks and a forced fumble during his career at Tennessee.
The Volunteers’ defensive depth has suddenly taken a hit in the aftermath of their season-ending loss on Saturday night.
