Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Dominates Arkansas

The Ole Miss Rebels women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance on Thursday night, securing an 89-50 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks at Bud Walton Arena. With this win, Ole Miss improved to 17-7 overall and 8-4 in SEC play, while Arkansas fell to 9-18 and 2-10 in the conference. The Rebels’ dominance on both ends of the court led to their largest win in SEC play this season.

Early Lead Sets the Tone

Arkansas struck first, but Ole Miss quickly responded with a 9-0 run and never looked back. The Rebels maintained control throughout the first quarter, capitalizing on Arkansas’ early foul trouble. Razorbacks forward Vera Ojenuwa picked up her second foul within the opening 10 minutes, making it difficult for Arkansas to establish an inside presence.

Despite Arkansas trimming the lead to 25-19 early in the second quarter, Ole Miss took over the game with a dominant 23-2 run to close out the first half. By halftime, the Rebels had built a commanding 48-23 lead, effectively shutting down any Razorback momentum.

Rebels Continue to Dominate in the Second Half

Ole Miss maintained its stronghold on the game in the third quarter. Arkansas initially kept pace, but foul trouble returned as Ojenuwa picked up her third before the media timeout. The Rebels capitalized, closing out the quarter on a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 71-33. The Razorbacks struggled offensively, managing just 10 points in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Arkansas posted its best offensive frame, scoring 17 points, but it wasn’t nearly enough to challenge the Rebels. Ole Miss added 18 more points to secure the emphatic 39-point win.

Key Players and Statistical Disparities

Four players reached double figures for Ole Miss, highlighting a balanced scoring attack. Madison Scott recorded her 30th career double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Her performance against the Razorbacks continued a dominant trend, as she has posted four double-doubles in five games against Arkansas.

Arkansas struggled offensively, with Izzy Higginbottom being the lone bright spot. She led the Razorbacks with 18 points, but no other player managed more than six. The Razorbacks’ shooting woes were glaring, as they hit just 33% from the field and a season-low 9.1% (2-22) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Ole Miss shot 49% overall and 10-for-21 from three-point range.

Rebels’ Defense Shines

Ole Miss entered the game as the SEC’s best defensive team, allowing just 54 points per game, and they lived up to that reputation. The Rebels suffocated Arkansas’ offense, holding them to their lowest-scoring total of the season. The Razorbacks’ 50 points marked their second-largest loss in SEC play this year.

Arkansas will have a few days to regroup before traveling to No. 2 South Carolina on Thursday, while Ole Miss looks to build on their momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play.
