Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman has been absent from the team since last week as he addresses a pressing family emergency.
Freeman’s son, Maximus, is currently battling a severe health condition.
On Thursday, Freddie and his wife, Chelsea, provided a concerning update about their son’s condition. Maximus has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, especially uncommon in children.
“Hi All, we wanted to give an update on Maximus. Last Friday, Max rapidly declined and went into full body paralysis. We are very fortunate to have gotten him to the hospital in time so they could reinforce his lungs,” the couple shared in a joint post on social media.
“Freddie was in Houston at the time and rushed to catch the first flight back home. After many tests, Max is battling a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome.”
The situation is undoubtedly distressing for the Freeman family. However, there are signs of hope as Max begins his recovery journey.
Freeman, who hasn’t played since July 25th, is having a strong season, boasting a .288 batting average with 16 home runs and 67 RBIs.
Although his absence is felt by the Dodgers, the entire baseball world is behind him and his family.
Freeman has always been considered as one of the most classy and respected players in all of baseball.
Needless to say, everyone is wishing nothing but the absolute best for his son.
Fight on.
