The NHL has officially released the preseason schedule, with the Maple Leafs slated to kick off their preseason against a heated Atlantic Division rival.
We have reached the midway point of the off-season with August primarily trending to a be a pretty quiet month for hockey news. This is before things ramp up in September, with training camps opening and preseason hockey.
Toronto had a very busy pre-season schedule last year, playing a total of eight games. Many hockey fans who feel the pre-season is took long will be happy to know Toronto only has six games on the pre-season schedule for the 2024-25 season.

Saturday, September 28 – 7 pm ET at Montréal Bell Centre (Montréal, QC)
Thursday, October 3 – 7 pm ET at Detroit Little Caesars Arena (Detroit, MI)
Saturday, October 5 – 7 pm ET vs. Detroit Scotiabank Arena (Toronto, ON)
With the Leafs playing two games each against division rivals in the Senators, Red Wings and Canadiens, it will provide plenty of time to see how the big stars are looking ahead of the new season while getting to see a glimpse of young prospects looking to make the team, including Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan.
The NHL regular season will begin in Europe on Friday, Oct. 4, when the Buffalo Sabres play the New Jersey Devils in the 2024 NHL Global Series at O2 Arena in Prague, Czechia.
Toronto doesn’t play their first game of the season until October 9th, opening on the road against the Montreal Canadiens.
