RHP Darius Vines Reassigned to Double-A Mississippi Amid Struggles\
In a recent organizational decision, the Atlanta Braves have moved right-handed pitcher Darius Vines back to Double-A Mississippi. This move came shortly after Vines was designated for assignment on July 30, following a challenging outing with the major league team.
Vines, who is ranked as the Braves’ No. 13 prospect by MLB Pipeline, experienced difficulty during his last appearance in the big leagues on July 29, where he surrendered four hits and two earned runs in just one inning of relief. This performance mirrored his struggles throughout the season.
The 26-year-old pitcher had spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Gwinnett, starting 14 games but posting only a moderate record of 3-3, alongside a concerning ERA of 5.14 over 77 innings pitched. His struggles continued in the major leagues where, over four appearances including two starts, he recorded an 0-1 record with an 8.56 ERA.
Vines’ last stint at the Double-A level was in 2022 with Mississippi, where he started 20 games and produced a more solid season, achieving a 7-4 record with a 3.95 ERA and a striking 127:30 K/BB ratio over 107 innings.
The decision to move Vines back to Double-A is seen as a step for him to regain form and consistency. Should he perform well in Mississippi, there is potential for a quick return to Triple-A. However, a call-up to rejoin the Braves would require adding him back to the 40-man roster.
This transition marks a significant pivot in Vines’ career trajectory, which has seen highs early on but now faces a critical period of reassessment and adjustment. As younger talents continue to emerge within the Braves’ system, Vines will need to rediscover his earlier form to reestablish himself as a key player in the organization’s plans.
