British golfer Charley Hull did not give a great account of herself in the opening round at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games and has blamed it on a bathroom mishap.
Hull, who became a fan favorite after she was seen smoking cigarettes during a round earlier this year, finished among the bottom markers at the Olympic golf event after hitting seven bogeys and a double.
Despite the disappointment, she reckons she’s past the worst of it and has played two rounds since.
“First week back really after my injury, so to get that round out of the way and [use it as a] bit of a warmup for the British Open now, I’ll take it,” she said.
Charley Hull Explains Bathroom Accident
The golfer also discussed her injury, revealing she fell out of the shower and thought she tore something. The accident caused her to miss the Aramco Team Series, and it doesn’t appear she was completely over it at the start of her Olympic campaign in Paris, France.
“I fell over when I was on the way back from America,” she explained, per Golf Monthly. “The team and I then had to pull out of the Aramco and had a week-and-a-half off golf because I thought I tore something in there. So I had an MRI and then — my hip was out, shouldn’t have played Evian. So I took like a week and a half off.
The explanation wasn’t quite enough for a reporter, who pressed her for more.
“Fell over coming out of the shower before I was getting my flight, I thought I tore my thing — nothing come up,” she said. “I just have a bit of arthritis now in my shoulder.”
Charley Hull felt like she was close to full strength following her opening-round disappointment, though she admitted it would take some time before she regained total sharpness.
