Several Sheffield Wednesday players are under the spotlight following the defeat vs Leeds United.
Sheffield Wednesday fell to a second successive defeat in the Championship on Friday night.
The Owls welcomed Leeds United to Hillsborough, looking to avenge a calamitous 4-0 defeat vs Sunderland in their previous outing.
And once again, Danny Rohl’s side started the brighter, passing the ball around nicely before conceding the opening goal.
Leeds United took the lead through Brenden Aaronson after 24 minutes, doubling their lead shortly after the break.
It was another frustrating night for Owls fans who took huge amounts of optimism into this new season, after Sheffield Wednesday signed 10 new players in the transfer market.
After the opening three games of the 2024/25 season though, there’s huge question marks arising over the quality of players brought in, with Rohl also coming under the spotlight.
The shape and style has come under scrutiny on social media following two poor performances.
And in the last two games, defender Yan Valery has also faced criticism
Yan Valery criticised for Brenden Aaronson opener vs Sheffield Wednesday
Valery won Sky’s Man of the Match award for his performance in the 4-0 win vs Plymouth Argyle on the opening day of the season.
But he’s been poor in the last two games now, and he was criticised for his decision-making for Aaron’s opener on Friday night.
The Frenchman stepped out and allowed for Mateo Joseph to run in behind, with the ball eventually dropping to Aaronson who scored.
Speaking at half-time on Sky Sports, experienced EFL boss and now Sky pundit Gary Rowett said: “I don’t really know what Valery is doing.
“I don’t know why he tries to step out.
“I think it’s a poor decision. I think if he just retreats and tries to buy his team time, they don’t get into that position in the first place.
“I think it’s just poor decision-making.”

Danny Rohl is missing key ingredient at Sheffield Wednesday
When Sheffield Wednesday get forward and move the ball around, they look unstoppable.
Although it’s not worked in the last two games, we saw a bit more of Wednesday’s attacking impetus vs Leeds, albeit with very little in the way of chances created.
But it’s at the back where the Owls struggle; mainly, they simply seem to lack organisation, and basic defensive skills.
Di’Shon Bernard hasn’t stepped up to the plate this season and Dominic Iorfa has been poor.
On top of that, Valery and Max Lowe in the full-back positions seem to be much more better going forward than they do in defence.
Right now, Sheffield Wednesday seem very weak at the back, and Valery in particular has been exposed on a couple of occasions already this season.
Something has to change soon for the Owls.
