West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan has delivered an update on Grady Diangana following the Baggies’ 2-1 victory at Stoke City.
Diangana suffered a cruel setback just 13 minutes after entering the field at the bet365 Stadium, completing his return from a calf injury only to be forced off with a potential shoulder ligament problem.
Corberan said he would be “very happy with two weeks” as a timescale, but that the club must wait for further news.
Speaking to the Express & Star [24 August], the Baggies boss said: “Yes, unfortunately the injury looks like the ligaments of the shoulder, so this is the negative thing of this win because we don’t want to lose any player.
“Hopefully it’s not the worst, but in football these things happen and are probably the most sad things you can have.
“If you tell me it is only two weeks, then I’d sign it on paper right now. I would be very happy. We need to evaluate him well.”
West Brom and Grady Diangana suffer gutting blow
After the gradual return for Diangana – one of Corberan and the Championship’s most dangerous players in full throttle – it looked as if he would get back in his groove in a winning team.
Unfortunately for all associated with Albion – and none more so than the forward himself – he now faces a fresh unconfirmed length of time on the sidelines.
The one potential silver lining is that the club still have five days until the English transfer deadline, and may be able to draft in a reinforcement – even on loan – to help bulk out Corberan’s options.
Despite losing a raft of experienced players over the summer months with some quarters predicting a more sluggish season than the last, Albion’s togetherness is shining through and the team remain unbeaten in the league with seven points from three games.
Having already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup, the coming week is now all about two focuses: Swansea City next weekend, and before that, Deadline Day.
