Nottingham Forest claimed their first win of the 2024/25 campaign yesterday by beating Southampton 1-0 at St Mary’s Stadium.
Morgan Gibbs-White grabbed the game’s only goal with 20 minutes remaining and Forest sit fifth in the Premier League.
Nuno Espirito Santo raved about his captain after the game and Gibbs-White is off the mark for the 2024/25 campaign.
Forest gave a debut to Nikola Milenkovic yesterday with supporters baffled at his suspension last week following a red card in an Italian Cup fixture in April
The Serbian star was in form on the south coast yesterday and his debut probably should have been capped with a first Forest goal today.
Adam Summerton raves about Nottingham Forest star
The TNT Sports commentator is renowned for covering Italian football and after yesterday’s game, he’s raved about Milenkovic.
A tough-tackling Serbia international, the player made his first Forest outing and he didn’t disappoint.
He played exceptionally well alongside Murillo at central defence and Summerton thinks that relationship could thrive.
The commentator said on X: “Not surprised to hear lots of praise for Milenkovic – that could be some partnership with Murillo, complimentary skill-sets.”
Milenkovic is only 26-years-old but he’s already been to two World Cups with his country and reached two European finals with Fiorentina.
Milenkovic will prove quality Forest signing
Despite what some critics will say, Evangelos Marinakis has left the recruitment team to it this summer and it’s paid dividends.
Milenkovic only cost £12 million and that could prove to be an absolute steal come the end of the season.
The defender has the aerial prowess to improve Forest from set pieces and yesterday he also showcased that he’s capable of playing out from the back.
Summerton is right about Murillo too. The Brazilian perhaps has to brush up on some defensive qualities but his ball-playing capabilities will make him a nice partner for Milenkovic.
Forest are still a work in progress but with Milenkovic at the back, perhaps there is real reason to be excited about the team this season.
