Clemson Makes Another Big Move in AP Poll

Clemson (22-5, 14-2 ACC) jumped up five spots to No. 13 in the latest AP Top 25 Men’s College Basketball Poll released Monday.

After falling out of the AP Poll on Dec. 23 following consecutive overtime losses to Memphis and South Carolina that month, Clemson re-entered the AP Poll on Feb. 10 and checked in at No. 23, before climbing to No. 18 in the AP Poll a week ago.

The Tigers won the lone game they played in this past week, a 79-69 victory at SMU on Saturday. By improving to 14-2 in the ACC, Clemson tied the school record for conference wins in a regular season (14-6 in 2022-23). The win marked Clemson’s sixth straight ACC road win, breaking the record of five straight by Horace Grant’s 1986-87 team. Clemson also extended a program record on Saturday with its seventh road win in ACC play.

The Tigers have bounced back with four straight wins overall – including back-to-back home wins over then-No. 2 Duke, and North Carolina — since suffering an 89-86, triple-overtime loss to Georgia Tech in Littlejohn Coliseum on Feb. 4.

After the win at SMU, which added another Quad 1 win to Clemson’s resume, the Tigers moved up two spots to No. 22 in the NET Rankings. The victory over the Mustangs also moved Clemson to 4-2 against Quad 1 competition.

Clemson has won 10 of its last 11 games overall and remains tied with Louisville (21-6 overall, 14-2 ACC) for second place in the ACC standings, one game behind Duke (24-3, 15-1 ACC).

The Tigers return to the court on Wednesday when they host Notre Dame at Littlejohn Coliseum (7 p.m., ACC Network). If Clemson beats Notre Dame, the Tigers will reach at least 23 wins for the third straight year and join Duke as the only other ACC school to win at least 23 games each of the last three years.
