The departure of Matt O’Riley from Celtic to Brighton was a really sore one for the Parkhead support to take.
Despite months of speculation surrounding his future, including ten clubs registering interest in the Celtic midfielder, the departure of O’Riley still hit the Celtic fans hard on social media.
What was brilliant to see was that the vast majority of posts from Celtic fans on X were wishing Matt the very best at Brighton as well as displaying their heartbreak at the move.
There is no doubt that the Denmark international was well-loved by the Celtic support. But what about the Brighton fans?
How do they feel about their club spending £30m on Celtic’s treble-wining hero?
Brighton fans’ Matt O’Riley excitement
The reaction to Matt O’Riley making his move to The Seagulls was extremely positive as these Brighton fans showed their joy at the Dane’s Celtic exit was announced on social media.
One Seagulls fan posted, “What a time to be a Brighton fan.” whilst another said, “Can’t wait to see our new midfield gel.”
Another Brighton fan was over the moon and said, “Great signing” and one was delighted with his club’s transfer business stating, “We are cooking!”.
And as the plaudits kept rolling in one made a claim that the vast majority of Celtic supporters would agree with when he simply posted, “GOAT” and another said, “Brighton doing the best transfer business this summer yet again. What a club”.
Matt’s signing brings back Casper Ankergren memories for this Brighton fan after the Dane helped them win League One back in 2011:
One Brighton fan made a promise to Celtic:
When Celtic fans can next see Matt O’Riley
It will be painful, of that there is no doubt, but many Celtic fans will still follow O’Riley’s career such was the Parkhead support’s affection for the midfielder.
Brighton face Crawley Town tonight at the Amex Stadium in the Carabao Cup with a 7:45 pm kick-off. It is unlikely O’Riley will start but he could find a place on the bench.
Brighton’s next big test comes on the 31st of August when they travel to London to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal before the international break kicks in.
If Matt makes his debut against the Premier League challengers, what a test that will be for his first taste of English top-flight action.
Once again, 67 Hail Hail wishes Matt all the best at Brighton and we can’t wait to see how he fares against some of the best players in the world.
