Florida hoops expecting massive addition for homestretch
Florida sophomore forward Alex Condon has missed the Gators’ last three games with a sprained right ankle.
Meanwhile, the Gators have kept on winning. They’re ranked No. 3 in the nation in the latest AP Top 25 Poll and they’re riding a six-game winning streak.
The Gators have been finding ways to get it done, but they’ve got a big stretch coming up. The good news for the Gators is that Condon is expected to be back in action for Tuesday night’s matchup at Georgia.
Head coach Todd Golden broke the news on Monday. Yes, some of it is that this is an important stretch for the Gators and they can use all the help they can get. Golden did make it clear that Condon is physically ready, though.
“Obviously every game for us in the SEC feels like the Super Bowl, but we also want to make sure we’re ready for March. We don’t want to bring any of these guys back early to where they’re laboring going into the NCAA tournament. I don’t think that’s beneficial for us.
“But I think he’s ready to go, and I’m feeling confident that he’ll play [Tuesday] night as of right now,” Golden said, according to ESPN.
After Georgia, Florida will play No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 6 Alabama (on the road) and Ole Miss.
Condon has averaged 10.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Gators. He’s the sixth-best rebounder in the SEC. For comparison’s sake, Auburn’s Johni Broome is averaging 11.1 rebounds per game.
