Days after mysteriously disappearing from the tennis circuit, Camila Giorgi has confirmed her retirement. The 32-year-old, who moved to the United States in a hurry, is now accused of failing to pay several months’ rent for a villa in Tuscany, as well as making furniture that was not hers disappear.
Camila Giorgi, who secretly quit tennis a few weeks ago, has moved to the United States and left Italy.
Now the former tennis player has been charged with stealing antiques and failing to pay rent for six months.
According to ‘Fox Sports’, Giorgi and his family also have several ‘gaps’ in their tax returns.
Also according to the US broadcaster, before leaving for the United States, the 32-year-old lived in a rented house in Calenzano, Tuscany. Now the landlord has filed a series of charges.
The owner’s accusations
The owner spoke to ‘La Repubblica’: “They made half of our furniture disappear. Persian rugs, fine furniture, even a half-ton antique table. We are talking about thefts between 50 and 100 thousand euros.” He also claimed that Giorgi did not pay rent for six months before suddenly disappearing.
More Information
The Italian media also report the position taken by the father, Sergio, who would have contacted the owner of the house in question.
“I wrote to him that they should at least give us back our things, and he replied dismissively, saying that they were of little value. It’s hateful behavior for someone like me who has suffered economic but also emotional damage,” he told the newspaper.
“I can’t know how true it is or how much Camila owes to the state, but I know what she owes us. Those objects are part of my mother’s life and mine: I want them back, at least those, since we have lost hope of seeing thousands and thousands of euros in rent arrears.”
Neighbors would see moving vans to the property and alert the owner, who arrived at the mansion to find that the house had been emptied.
