The Bears rookie is preparing a surprise for the Titans for their game on Sunday.
Caleb Williams is just two days away from formally beginning his NFL career. Even though all the hopes of Chicago Bears fans rest on his shoulders, the young quarterback is not intimidated and, on the contrary, is preparing a surprise for his rivals, pulled from Aaron Rodgers’ bag of tricks.
Although it is just getting started, Williams’ career already bears a marked resemblance to Rodgers’. Both gave up their final years of college eligibility to enter the NFL draft, both were selected in the first round – although Williams was the first overall pick and Rodgers the 27th – and both landed on NFC North teams.
Now, the Bears rookie is looking to reinforce that resemblance to the New York Jets veteran, trying to emulate one of the qualities that have made him one of the best quarterbacks in history. If he does, Williams will not only decimate his rivals but could also eventually make the list for GOAT.
Williams imitating Rodgers
Few will question Rodgers’ almost supernatural ability to complete passes. However, Williams believes he has cracked his secret and is now trying to incorporate it into his own arsenal.
In recent statements, the University of Southern California product indicated that he is trying to match the rate of spin that the former Green Bay Packers quarterback puts on the ball with each pass.
According to the young signal-caller, “The more the ball can spin, the easier it is to catch.” That is why he has been trying to give his spin on the ball more speed since childhood.
The trick will be to achieve it during a game
However, it’s one thing to do something during practice and quite another in a real setting. Even if Williams were to achieve his ideal spin rate during a game, there’s no guarantee he’ll be able to do it every time, much less in clutch time.
The ultimate test for Williams will come this coming Sunday when the Bears visit the Tennessee Titans in their Week 1 NFL game. If the rookie achieves his goal, his rivals, starting with the Titans, will have a serious problem on their hands.
