Norwich City have seen young defender Waylon Renecke snapped up by FC Copenhagen, it has been confirmed.
Norwich City saw the curtain called on a turbulent summer transfer window at Carrow Road.
Johannes Hoff Thorup took the chance to add some new faces to his ranks as he made the squad his own in Norfolk. Eye-catching additions such as Amankwah Forson, Ante Crnac, Callum Doyle and more were made.
The saga surrounding Jonathan Rowe’s eventual move to Marseille dominated proceedings for a while though and star man Gabriel Sara earned a deserved move to a higher level, joining Turkish giants Galatasaray on a permanent basis.
Now though, despite the fact the window closed for Norwich City last Friday, a late departure has just been confirmed by the Championship side.
As announced on the club’s official website, promising defender Waylon Renecke has left the Championship club. He’s joined Danish outfit FC Copenhagen on a permanent basis, linking up with the Europa Conference League side after coming through the ranks at Carrow Road.
Renecke never played for the first-team but was on the bench against Stoke City and was a regular for the U18s, also tasting U21s action.
Moving on
Norwich City have seen a whole host of promising young players come through their ranks over the years. Some have since become first-team mainstays at Carrow Road while others are prised away from the club.
Renecke falls into the latter category, and he’ll be keen to make good on his chance in Denmark with a club of a big stature like Copenhagen. He’ll likely link up with their academy sides to start with a view to breaking into the first-team further down the line.
The 18-year-old has represented both England and South Africa at youth level internationally, so he looks to be a player with a bright future ahead of him.
Renecke will be out to come good on this exciting potential by kicking on with Copenhagen after a strong youth career on these shored with Norwich City.
The Canaries’ focus
With the transfer window out of the way for Norwich City, the full focus will be on finding their feet in the Championship.
Thorup’s side sit 13th at this early stage having won once and drawn two since the opening day loss to Oxford United. They were triumphant for the first time at the weekend as Borja Sainz scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Coventry City.
It means they enter the international break on a high, though perhaps they would have had another game soon after to try and build up some momentum with another victory.
