Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has said Joe Taylor can be an ‘asset’ for his team after his proposed deadline day loan switch to Huddersfield Town fell through.
Luton Town kept hold of the attacker beyond the end of the transfer window last Friday. They weren’t able to bring in a replacement so had to retain his services, much to the disappointment of Huddersfield Town in League One.
Taylor, 21, has made two appearances for the Hatters so far this season. He came off the bench for them last time out in their 2-1 home loss to QPR.
In this latest update regarding his situation, their boss Rob Edwards has said, as per a report by Luton Today: “We wanted to get the right thing for Joe and maybe if something had come off we would have looked at the right thing for Joe because we want him playing. But it’s good that he’s here now and he can play here. He’s got to force his way into the team.
“I know there’s been a lot of talk about him and he has scored goals in lower leagues, but there’s other things to his game we want to continue to work on. It’s down to us now he’s in the building to help him do that, but I’m pleased he’s here, he can be an asset for us.”
Luton Town boss on Huddersfield Town target
Taylor joined Luton Town in 2023 having previously been on the books at Norwich City, King’s Lynn Town and Peterborough United.
The Wales youth international has made seven appearances for the Bedfordshire outfit in all competitions since then.
Taylor spent the first-half of the last campaign on loan at Colchester United in League Two and found the net on 12 occasions in 27 outings.
He then switched to Lincoln City in January and carried on his goal scoring exploits in League One, firing 10 in 19 games as the Imps narrowly missed out on the play-offs.
Watford were linked with him earlier in the summer, as per Football Insider, but nothing materialised on that front in the front.
Taylor would have been ideal for Huddersfield Town and would boosted their attacking options. It wasn’t meant to be though and they will have to wait until January now if they are to try again for him.
What now for Luton Town?
Luton Town have had a tricky start to life back in the Football League. They went down from the Premier League after finishing in the bottom three with Burnley and Sheffield United.
Edwards’ side are back in action after the international break away at Millwall as they look to hit form.
