FCS Head Coach Takes Shot at LSU’s Brian Kelly for Recruiting Tactics

Brian Kelly’s recruiting style with the LSU Tigers appears to have caught the eye of Prairie View A&M University head coach Tremaine Jackson for the wrong reasons.

Jackson is entering his first season with PVAMU after spending the last two years at the helm of Valdosta State, where he led the Blazers to two Gulf South Conference championships and an appearance in the Division II championship game last season.

While speaking with Dave Campbell’s Texas football, Jackson took a shot at LSU’s head coach for a viral recruiting moment that took place when Kelly first came over from Notre Dame in 2022.

“We don’t wine and dine guys in recruiting,” Jackson said. “We give it to you straight up because I don’t have time to de-recruit you. You’re not going to catch me on Twitter with my hat backward and dancing on the 360 with guys. Brian Kelly did that, and he ain’t won a championship yet.”

Jackson appears to be referencing LSU’s video shoot with class of 2022 tight end Danny Lewis, a Louisiana native that ultimately signed with Alabama.

Jackson’s recruiting style is clearly different than Kelly’s. After all, the FCS ranks are are a vastly different challenge in multiple ways.

However, it’s hard to argue with LSU’s recruiting success in the three full cycles under Kelly. The Tigers have hauled in top-10 classes (247 sports) each year over that span, including the nation’s No. 1 transfer class in 2025.

A spot in the College Football Playoff, though, has been hard to come by for Kelly and Co, as LSU hasn’t the playoff since taking home the national championship under Ed Orgeron in 2019.

That will be the ultimate goal for the program next season coming off a 9-4 season with a bowl win over Baylor.

LSU will open the 2025 season with a highly-anticipated road matchup against defending ACC champion Clemson on Aug. 30.
