Hogs give a disaster of a performance against South Carolina – Box Score Analysis

There is no excuse for what happened in Columbia, South Carolina. Arkansas displayed one of the worst games in program history, losing to South Carolina 72-53, and the game was worse than the final score indicates.
The Razorbacks looked like a group of guys off the street playing a pick-up game for the first time together. There was no chemistry and no discipline. The only positive takeaway was Jonas Aidoo, who had a solid performance in the wake of a disaster.
The final nine minutes of the game felt like it was all garbage time, where the game was already decided, and they just had to finish it out. However, they scored 29 of their 53 total points in those minutes, which was more than they scored in the first 31 minutes of the game.
Box Score Analysis: Arkansas vs. South Carolina
Historically Poor Performance
The Hogs put up a historically bad first half, only scoring 14 points, the fewest in a single half since 1987. They went 3-24 from the field and 0-8 from behind the arc. They scored more from free throws than they did from made field goals. They also turned the ball over nine times resulting in 11 points for South Carolina.
The start of the second half wasn’t much better, scoring only 10 points in the first 11 minutes. In the first 31 minutes of the game, Arkansas scored 24 points and was on pace to be in the record books as the worst performance in Arkansas history. However, they avoided that label by scoring 29 points in the final nine minutes of the game.
Jonas Aidoo
The only bright spot in this game was Jonas Aidoo. He posted a double-double, scoring 10 points and bringing down 10 rebounds, four of which were offensive rebounds. He was the only Arkansas player with a positive plus/minus. He has put together a few solid performances in consecutive games and has been stepping up to the plate when the Hogs need him most.
Allowing Big Performances
In back-to-back games, Arkansas has allowed an opponent to record career-high performances. Texas’ Tre Johnson scored 39 points in the overtime thriller, and South Carolina’s Collin Murray-Boyles scored a career-high 35 points, dominating the Razorbacks in every way possible. He was extremely efficient going 12-16 from the field and 11-12 from the free-throw line.
