Kentucky Women’s Basketball will begin SEC Tournament play on Friday

The Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team ended regular-season play Sunday with a loss at South Carolina. We now know where the Cats will be entering SEC Tournament play this coming week.

Following Sunday’s results, Kentucky will be the 4-seed and has earned a double bye at the SEC Tournament at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. The Wildcats will play against the winner of Game 6 on Friday, March 7th at 2:30 PM ET on ESPN.

It is the first time UK has earned the double bye since it claimed the third seed in 2020. UK has played in the quarterfinal game in 14 of the last 15 seasons.

The Wildcats have a 44-44 (.500) record in the league tournament, including a 17-16 (.515) in quarterfinal games.

New this season, the SEC Tournament will feature a 16-team format. The league tournament began as a 10-team format in 1980, then increased to a 12-team format in 1992 before adopting a 14-team format in 2013.
