CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis is getting praised for the interviews she conducted in the wake of Grayson Murray’s tragic death on Saturday.
Murray, a PGA Tour winner, died at 30 years old.
“We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.
“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Monahan continued. “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”
Balionis conducted interviews with some people close to Murray on the PGA Tour. She’s getting major praise for her classy and emotional interviews.
“The interview of @PeterMalnati by @Amanda_Balionis about the death of Grayson Murray was one of the most touching and honest moments I’ve ever seen in sports. Peter, you’re a courageous and compassionate man. Amanda, I don’t know how you held it together,” one fan wrote.
“Gigantic props to @PeterMalnati for wanting to sit down with @Amanda_Balionis in unimaginable turmoil, playing through such tragedy. A very emotional convo between the two, and a reminder that the best reporters are the best listeners. @GolfonCBS has served well today,” one fan added.
“Goodness, Amanda Balionis just did two great back-to-back interviews regarding Grayson Murray by letting the others do all the talking and pour out their emotions,” one fan added.
Well done, Amanda.
