Tennessee Football Linked to New Highly Touted Star Quarterback
The Tennessee Volunteers already have the top quarterback recruit verbally committed in the 2026 class. So, behind center, the Volunteers can already look ahead to 2027 recruits.
On3’s Matt Ray reported on Feb. 26 that Tennessee has made offers to a few different 2027 quarterbacks, including 4-star prospect Jayce Johnson.
“An early name that Tennessee has kept close tabs on is Lowndes County (Ga.) QB Jayce Johnson. He has been to campus multiple times, and he will return multiple more times down the road,” wrote Ray.
“Johnson is raw in his craft but is a dynamic athlete with impressive upside. Tennessee’s early offer made a big impression, and early indications are the Vols are a legitimate contender at this stage.”
According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Johnson is the No. 8 quarterback prospect and No. 9 Georgia recruit in 2027.
Rivals reported Johnson has received 20 offers, including from seven SEC schools besides Tennessee.
The Volunteers received a verbal commitment from quarterback Faizon Brandon, who is the top recruit overall in the 2026 class. Behind that commitment, Tennessee has an early lead in 2026 recruiting.
Tennessee could build its 2027 class similarly with a commitment from Johnson early in the process.
Johnson will play his final two high school seasons at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Ga. On3 has him listed as an athlete, but 247Sport and Rivals has Johnson classified as a quarterback.
