Good luck to former Stoke City top scorer Mame Diouf as he starts his journey at another new club.
The versatile forward, now aged 37, has signed a one-year contract with Ankara Keçiörengücü in the Turkish First League, or what is quickly becoming known as the Stoke retirement home. Over the next few weeks he will come up against Peter Etebo (Gençlerbirliği), Wesley (Fatih Karagümrük) and Daniel Johnson (also Fatih Karagümrük).
Diouf reached double figures for goals in the Premier League when he led the line in a talented Stoke attacking department under Mark Hughes in 2014/15, mostly used on the right wing or down the middle.
He impressed Hughes, however, when he filled in as an emergency right-back due to injuries and was later utilised as a right wing-back, never really getting another regular run of games in his favoured position for the Potters. He couldn’t force his way into the starting line up after relegation to the Championship and left with best wishes in 2020.
He went on to score 19 times for Hatayspor in his debut season in the Turkish top flight, then another 12 in his second season before joining Konyaspor, where he fired in 10. He spent last season with Goztepe and has now moved to the capital as a free agent.
