Arkansas Razorbacks Softball Cruises to Two Run-Rule Wins in Woo Pig Classic
The No. 11/12 Arkansas Razorbacks continued their dominant start to the 2024 season, securing two impressive victories in run-rule fashion during the second day of the Wooo Pig Classic at Bogle Park.
Dominant Pitching Leads the Way
Freshman Cam Harrison and sophomore Payton Burnham delivered stellar performances in the circle, shutting down Iowa and Illinois, respectively.
Harrison set the tone against the Hawkeyes, earning her third win of the season. The right-hander pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out three. She carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Lexi King closed out the game, securing all three outs in the fifth via a strikeout and a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.
Burnham followed with a complete-game performance against Illinois, picking up her fifth win of the season. The Eugene, Ore. native allowed just one run on four hits while striking out four across six innings of work. Burnham effectively relied on her defense, recording 12 groundouts against the Fighting Illini.
Explosive Offense Powers the Hogs
The Razorbacks’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with six players recording multiple hits and RBIs across both games.
In the win over Iowa, Courtney Day and Ella McDowell shined at the plate, each blasting home runs and going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Bri Ellis opened the scoring with a solo shot in the first inning, adding to Arkansas’ early offensive explosion.
The nightcap against Illinois saw Jayden Ramos make history with her first career home run, a three-run walk-off blast to right-center field in the sixth inning. Day continued her impressive day with a two-run double in the first, while Reagan Johnson (2-for-3, 2 R, 3 SB) and Raigan Kramer (2-for-2, 2 R, BB, SF, RBI) provided additional firepower.
Record-Breaking Start for the Razorbacks
With the victories, Arkansas has now secured 14 run-rule wins this season—the most through 19 games in program history and tied for the third-most in a single season. The program record for run-rule wins in a season is 16, set in 2014.
Additionally, the Razorbacks’ 18-1 start ties the best mark through 19 games in program history, matching the 2017 squad that won 19 of its first 20 contests. Under head coach Courtney Deifel, Arkansas has amassed an impressive 267-26 record when outitting opponents.
Looking Ahead
The Razorbacks will conclude the Wooo Pig Classic on Sunday with a matchup against Missouri State at 12:30 p.m. The game will be televised on SEC Network+ as Arkansas looks to continue its historic start to the season.
