Texas Star Madison Booker Crowned SEC Player of the Year
The Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team is blazing through the season, sitting atop the rankings with 13 straight wins, including consecutive victories over No. 24 Vanderbilt, No. 2 South Carolina, No. 8 Kentucky, and No. 5 LSU.
While the Longhorns boast a roster brimming with talent and depth, their unprecedented success this season has been largely driven by the exceptional play and leadership of Madison Booker, whose impact on both ends of the court has set her apart as the team’s cornerstone.
Just one year after winning Big 12 Freshman of the year and Player of the Year for Texas, she has done it again, this time in the SEC.
Booker has led the Texas Longhorns to the No. 1 ranking heading into conference tournament play, fully earning this award for the second year in a row.
Averaging 16 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 2.9 APG, her all-around dominance on the floor goes to show how important she was to the Longhorns’ success, as they achieved a 29-2 regular season record before tournament time this March.
Her leadership, even as a Sophomore, has elevated the rest of the Longhorns into being one of this year’s truly elite teams in college basketball.
Despite being the No. 1 team in the country, Booker’s Longhorns enter the SEC tournament as the No. 2 seed, with South Carolina claiming the No. 1 seed.
Texas will kick off SEC tournament play on Friday, March 7th, awaiting the winner of Ole Miss and the Missouri/Mississippi State matchup.
All eyes will be on the Longhorns as they aim to turn their regular-season dominance into postseason success.
