West Ham United are predicted to finish 10th this season following their draw with Fulham, according to the Opta Analyst.
The website’s supercomputer predicted on Monday (16 September) that the Hammers will likely have to settle for a midtable finish after they could only pick up a point in the 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.
Julen Lopetegui’s side remain outsiders for both a European place and the relegation zone, with the supercomputer’s prediction giving them a two per cent chance of finishing in the bottom three this year.
The Hammers have a 1.7 per cent chance of qualifying for the Champions League and a 23.9 per cent chance of a top-eight finish, but a 10th or 11th-placed finish remains the most likely outcome at this stage.
Where will West Ham United finish in the Premier League this season?
While most West Ham supporters would have expected the Irons to have a few more points under their belt given the heavy spending at the London Stadium this summer, the Hammers’ start to the season has been far from straightforward.
Lopetegui’s side have already had to face two of last season’s top four in Aston Villa and Manchester City and in both Fulham and Crystal Palace they have played two of the Premier League’s more competitive midtable sides.
On the face of it, four points from four games isn’t a good start but with several new signings still finding their feet in East London, there is plenty of time for this team to hit new heights under Lopetegui.
Irons supporters are yet to see the best of the likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Jean-Clair Todibo while it was always going to take a few weeks for players like Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme to adapt to the Premier League.
Most fans wanted to see Lopetegui’s side mount a serious European challenge this term and while they still could, supporters may have to rein in their expectations ever so slightly.
This team are heading in the right direction, but it could take a bit longer than initially expected for them to reach their destination.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been told that Konstantinos Mavropanos has “got to go” after the draw with Fulham
