OT thriller goes the Longhorns’ way as Texas storms towards the SEC Tournament

The Texas men’s basketball team is in the midst of a terrible season, there is no denying it. However, the Longhorns have pulled off a few impressive wins, including their win last night against the No. 25 Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Behind a 24-point performance by senior guard Tramon Mark, the Horns forced the game into overtime and eventually walked away with the 87-82 victory.
Alongside his 24 points, Mark also had four rebounds and one block off the bench as he led the Longhorns in scoring. Freshman phenom Tre Johnson joined Mark in the twenty-point night with 23 points of his own as well as four assists, three rebounds, and one steal.

While Texas is just 6-11 in conference play, the Horns have collected a few notable wins over ranked opponents this season. Texas defeated the Missouri Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies in back-to-back ranked wins and then defeated the Kentucky Wildcats in a third ranked victory.
The win over Mississippi State put a fourth ranked-win notch on the Longhorns’ belt and improved Texas’ record to 17-13 overall.
With just one regular season matchup remaining, against the Oklahoma Sooners, the Horns will fall well short of the usually expected 20-win mark on a season. However, the SEC has every member in the postseason conference tournament, and Texas has the opportunity to make a run if the team can pull off (a lot of) upsets.
The Longhorns and the Sooners are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 8 in their final regular season game of the year. The SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament is set to start on March 12, the Horns are currently ranked No. 13 in the conference.
