Wolves travel to the American Express Stadium for a third round Carabao Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Gary O’Neil’s men defeated Burnley 2-0 in the previous round thanks to a brace from Goncalo Guedes. As for Brighton, they made easy work of Crawley Town, with Simon Adingra, Jeremy Sarmiento, Adam Webster, and Mark O’Mahony all scoring in a 4-0 win down in Sussex.
Here’s the latest injury news ahead of the game which takes place at 7.45 pm on Wednesday, September 18. The game is available to watch on streaming service Sky Sports +.
Wolves team news
Gary O’Neil revealed in his post-match press conference after the defeat to Newcastle United that Bastien Meupiyou, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Toti Gomes wouldn’t be available for selection after suffering injuries.
Toti has been sidelined with a hamstring injury and wasn’t in the match day squad against Newcastle. Left-back Ait-Nouri has twisted his ankle, meanwhile Meupiyou arrived from Nantes with an issue that the club was made aware about.
Andre, who was making his first full start, along with right-back Nelson Semedo, both suffered with fatigue towards the end of the match, but there is no cause for concern.
“It’s a small hamstring injury for Toti and Andre was just cramp in his calf, he asked to come off,” said GON.
“It was the same for Semedo, that unfortunately coincided with the equaliser and second goal. “Toti will be fit for Aston Villa but I’m not sure for the Brighton game. Bastien [Meupiyou] was signed injured, he won’t be available for about a month.
“Rayan [Ait-Nouri] rolled his ankle a little bit, the same one he rolled before, hopefully it’s not too bad but it’s too early to say. “Santi Bueno will play at Brighton, and we will probably see a young player at centre-back.
Defensive midfielder Boubacar Traore has made just one appearance this season and that was a 45-minute appearance against Burnley in the second round. He’s out for about two to three games with a knee injury.
Enso Gonzalez is a long-term absentee having suffered an ACL injury at the Olympic Games earlier this summer. Sasa Kalajdzic is another player that won’t feature, as he damaged his knee whilst out on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this year.
Out: Boubacar Traore, Enso Gonzalez, Sasa Kalajdzic, Toti Gomes, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Bastien Meupiyou.
Brighton & Hove Albion team news
Matt O’Riley underwent surgery on his ankle after suffering an injury just 10 few minutes in to his debut. He will be out for a few months at least, and that is a blow for a player that the Seagulls paid £25m to Celtic for.
James Milnner suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal before the international break and will be out for an unspecified period. The 38-year-old had a scan, and it wasn’t revealed to be a big issue, but he could miss out on the next few games at least.
Brajan Gruda has yet to make his debut for the club since signing from Mainz in the summer. He had a ‘small injury’ according to Fabian Hurzeler last month, and is still yet to be named in any of their squads.
Solly March is in ‘good shape’ as he recovers from a knee injury. He’s not close to returning to action however having been sidelined since October, but no time frame has been placed on his return.
Joao Pedro was rested against Ipswich Town as Fabian Hurzeler did not want to risk him aggravating an injury. He sustained a minor injury whilst playing for Brazil last week.
Mats Wieffer made his debut against Everton, but hasn’t been since the games after that. It was hoped he would return just after the international break, and so this fixture would be a good time to introduce him back in to things.
Out: Matthew O’Riley, James Milner, Brajan Gruda, and Solly March. Doubt: Joao Pedro, and Mats Wieffer.
