Figuring out how many more wins Ohio State needs for an NCAA Tournament bid

The Ohio State basketball team was able to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive by beating Nebraska in double overtime on Tuesday night. Was that enough to put them in the Tourney, though?

The Ohio State basketball team was very close to blowing a lead on Senior Night against Nebraska on Tuesday. Had they done so, it would have been the kind of loss that likely would have kept them out of the NCAA Tournament. Instead, they were able to survive in double overtime.

While it wasn’t pretty, the Buckeyes got the win. They were able to keep their chances of playing meaningful basketball deep into March alive. The biggest question now is simple: how many more games do the Ohio State Buckeyes need to win in order to stamp their ticket?

The Buckeyes have just one more game left in the regular season. They have to take on Indiana this weekend in Bloomington. What makes that game even more critical is that IU is also a bubble team. That game could decide who gets in and who stays at home.

How many more games the Ohio State basketball team needs to win to get into the NCAA Tournament

In order for the Buckeyes to safely make it in, they need to win at least two more games. They have to win against Indiana this weekend and then win the first game in the Big Ten Tournament. That should be enough to put them in the field of 68 for the first time in a couple of years.

If they really want to leave no doubt, they should win the next three games. That would absolutely lock them in in case there are any bid thieves out there when conference tournaments are done. If Ohio State is able to do that, it would be shocking if they were left out.

Ohio State has to play much better basketball in the next few weeks if they want to secure those wins. Jake Diebler needs to get his team to rally and play some better half-court offense. Taking care of the ball needs to be a larger priority, too.
