College Football Insider Declares Something ‘Fishy’ is Going on With Florida’s DJ Lagway
It’s no secret that the 2025 college football season is pivotal for Billy Napier and the Florida Gators.
This past season marked his first above .500 since taking the reins in Gainesville, and before the team rattled off four wins to end the year, there were plenty of calls for Napier to be shown the door. However, with those four games showing that the Gators could be onto something with DJ Lagway at quarterback, Florida is now emerging as everyone’s favorite offseason dark horse team.
However, there have been concerning reports about the star quarterback’s health as of late. Napier told the media that Lagway will be limited from a throwing perspective due to a shoulder issue, which raises some red flags in the eyes of AP’s Mark Long.
“There’s something going on over there,” Long said on 1010XL. “They said he’s going to be limited in throwing activities. He never had a shoulder injury last year. He had a… hamstring. Well, the hamstring was in November. Matt, it’s March. The hamstring was four months ago. Why would the hamstring affect the shoulder? I asked Billy (Napier) specifically, ‘did he have any offseason surgery?’ no.
“I’m not sure I’m buying it Matt,” Long said. “Something is fishy…”
Long also highlighted concern over the fact that whatever is wrong with Lagway’s shoulder, requires a second opinion. Something Napier expressed when talking to the media on Thursday.
“I think our intentions here are to be very smart,” Napier said of Lagway. “I do think he’ll be limited to throwing activities, but he’ll participate in all practices otherwise. And we’ve done a lot of homework here relative to the things that he went through as a player. I mean, he was an absolute warrior and a great competitor that showed toughness. “And we’ve consulted with quite a few experts here from a UFHealth and from a national perspective, as we do with a lot of our players in terms of second opinions. So I think in general, he’ll be able to do quite a bit, but there will be some limitations.”
While it’s a bit concerning, it’s better to be safe now then risk things when the season rolls around. The Gators also have veteran transfer Harrison Bailey, and freshman Tramell Jones to take snaps in the room.
