Auburn Star Flirts With Returning for Another Season

Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers have one of the best players in the country at their disposal in forward Johni Broome, who averages 18 points per game.

However, there is another player on Auburn’s roster who can also consistently be a reliable scoring option. Guard Chad Baker-Mazara, who averages 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists, posed a question on X Friday.

Baker-Mazara flirted with the idea of returning to Auburn for another season.

Auburn is 27-3 heading into its final game of the regular season. The Tigers have a rematch with Alabama with a chance to sweep the season series after winning the first game 94-85.

Baker-Mazara responded to a tweet from one of Pearl’s press conferences discussing how the Auburn star has another year of eligibility. Baker-Mazara asked Auburn fans how they would feel about him returning for one more season.

“What ya think Auburn fam run it back?” Baker-Mazara asked.

Baker-Mazara was an unrated college basketball prospect from the 2020 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

His college career began with Duquesne, where he played in 15 games with 13 starts. He averaged 9.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists during the 2020-2021 season.

After one year with Duquesne, Baker-Mazara transferred to San Diego State. He played in 31 games but was never a starter, averaging 6.3 points per game.

After struggling to find consistent playing time at San Diego State, Baker-Mazara headed to JUCO to play for Northwest Florida State College. He led his team with 15.2 points per game and helped them achieve a 29-8 record for the 2022-2023 season.

The guard ended up at Auburn at the start of the 2023-2024 season and had an instant impact. During his first season with the Tigers, he averaged 10 points per game, playing in 35 games with nine starts.

Fast-forward to the 2024-2025 season, and Baker-Mazara is a key contributor to Auburn’s success on the court.

No. 1 Auburn and Baker-Mazara play No. 7 Alabama Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
