Sheffield Wednesday are on a torrid run of form, which continued with a defeat to Luton Town on Saturday.
There was much optimism at Hillsborough going into the 2024/25 Championship season.
After saving them from relegation last term, big things were expected of Danny Rohl in Yorkshire this time around.
The Owls recruited well over the summer and owing to their form at the back end of last campaign, a top-half finish was predicted for Sheffield Wednesday.
And, after the opening weekend of 2024/25, the Owls looked well on course to be competing with the best in the division.
Sheffield Wednesday thumped Plymouth Argyle 4-0 and a new era at the club appeared to have started.
However, since getting the better of Wayne Rooney, things have not gone to plan for Rohl at all.
Barring victories in the Carabao Cup, Wednesday have failed to win a single game since August 11th.
Danny Rohl issues promise to Sheffield Wednesday fans
Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-1 versus Rob Edwards Luton Town in a 3pm kick-off on September 21st.
A controversial penalty call cost Rohl’s men vs the Hatters but it was still another defeat no matter who or what fans may want to blame.
This torrid run of one win and six has seen Wednesday slip down to 21st in the Championship, a far cry from where they were predicted to finish back in August.
Position | Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | For | Against | Diff | Points |
19 | Coventry | 6 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 6 | 8 | -2 | 5 |
20 | Plymouth | 6 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 10 | -5 | 5 |
21 | Sheffield Wednesday | 6 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 6 | 12 | -6 | 4 |
22 | Preston | 5 | 1 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 9 | -6 | 4 |
Now, speaking to the club’s media post-Luton, Rohl has promised fans that they will keep working and will start picking up points.
He said: “But we have to keep working in this way and we will get the points.
“I think last week we had a 50-50 decision that went against us and today another 50-50 decision against us but we had three or four opportunities to score more.
“To take the win away you need to be clinical but all in all I cannot say anything against my team, they keep invest, invest, invest and our supporters recognised this today. It is a big pity.”
Predicting when Sheffield Wednesday winless run will end
After Luton, Sheffield Wednesday’s next Championship fixture sees them face off with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, September 28th.
It is a home clash for the Owls but they are unlikely to come away with the win given the Baggies are top of the division and still yet to lose a game this term.
Outings against Bristol City and Coventry City follow and though they should be ‘easier’ games, they are both away from home, which always makes a tie more difficult.
The Owls then host Scott Parker’s Burnley on October 19th, which will also be a very tough tie.
So, unless Wednesday can beat Bristol City over Coventry away from home, their fans may have to wait until the end of October for their winless run to finally end.
