A date is set for Ohio State football legend to return to Columbus after promotion to FBS head coach
Ohio State legend Eddie George has produced quite the coaching career after wrapping up a tremendous on-field legacy with Ohio State and Tennessee Titans. The dominant Ohio State running back will be back in The Horseshoe on Sept. 4, 2027, as the head coach of the Bowling Green Falcons.
George interviewed for several high-profile jobs this past offseason after tallying a 24-22 record at Tennessee State, including the Chicago Bears. He won Big South OVC Coach of the Year last year, capping off a terrific rebuild effort at the FCS level.
He scored a five-year deal from the Falcons after his 9-4 season and playoff appearance.
The Falcons have struggled to breakout in recent years, finishing 7-6 in 2024. Previous head coach Scot Loeffler made a bowl game in three straight years, landing the quarterback coach job with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the program seemed to hit a ceiling under Loeffler.
As a Buckeye, he established himself as a powerhouse, winning the 1995 Heisman Trophy after rushing for an impressive 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns in his senior season.
His size, speed, and agility made him a nightmare for opposing defenses, and he left Ohio State as one of the program’s all-time greats.
George was selected 14th overall by the Houston Oilers (later the Tennessee Titans) in the 1996 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact, earning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award after rushing for 1,368 yards.
During his nine-season NFL career, George was known for his durability, consistency, and punishing running style. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first five seasons, peaking in 2000 with 1,509 yards and 14 touchdowns.
