Unai Emery has been one of the best things to have happened at Aston Villa for a very long time.
On Saturday, Aston Villa secured a stunning comeback win over Wolves, you just know the teams of the past would have lost that game.
But, for two weeks in a row, the Champions League side have showcased their mentality and proven why they are one of the best teams in the Premier League.
Let’s be honest, Aston Villa‘s first half of football against Wolves was pretty abject, it was clear that changes needed to be made.
Emery did that at half-time by the injured John McGinn going off and being replaced by Leon Bailey, then Ian Maatsen replacing Lucas Digne.
That worked a treat because it brought some much-needed energy from the side, but it was the further changes that brought the goals.
Jhon Duran scored from the bench again, but it was Ross Barkley who was the unsung hero again for Villa, even if he didn’t have a goal or assist to his name.
The brains behind it all is Emery and Peter Schmeichel lauded the Spaniard by labelling him ‘fantastic’.
What’s even better, and Schmeichel touched upon this, is that Emery’s teams are ‘entertaining’, with that high line giving many people scares.
Either way, the legendary goalkeeper was right to give his flowers to the Villa boss and what he brings to the table makes him ‘love football’, as he told Premier League Productions (21/09/24 at 8:35 pm).
Aston Villa beat Wolves
“Aston Villa being in the Champions League, that’s massive, massive, massive for the football club,” said Schmeichel. “And they played the first game in midweek, so that would have taken so much from them. You could see that in the first half.
“Then all of a sudden, they showed their class. That manager, I love that manager. Emery is so fantastic. The way he is setting his teams up. The way they play. The way his interviews are. Everything about him and what he is doing is entertaining. That’s what I love about football.”
Aston Villa and Unai Emery in the Champions League
Villa fans were delighted when they reached the Champions League last season and now they are looking to upset the elite.
It started in the perfect manner because Villa eased past Young Boys to win their opening Champions League game.

And now it’s the small matter of hosting German giants Bayern Munich on home soil next month.
You just know that Emery is built for games like this and Villa have everything in their locker to cause an upset.
