Liverpool have been given the green light to offer Luis Diaz a new contract after his explosive start to the season, sources have told Football Insider.
The Merseyside giants had been willing to listen to offers for the 27-year-old left-winger during the summer transfer window, but his performances have won over Arne Slot.
The Colombia international has begun the season in sensational form and he scored his second Premier League double during Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth last Saturday.
Talks are expected to commence between Diaz and the Premier League giants over a new and improved deal to extend his stay at Anfield.
Diaz’s current deal expires in 2027, but the Reds are now aiming to secure his long-term future.
The winger has scored five goals and provided one assist so far this season in six appearances in all competitions.
Liverpool are aiming to keep Luis Diaz at the club long-term
Diaz initially joined the Merseyside giants in 2022 and has gone on to make 104 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 14 assists.
Barcelona and PSG were both interested in the left-winger during the summer transfer window, with Liverpool potentially open to selling the player if their £50million price tag was met.
Liverpool tried to sign Anthony Gordon during the summer but were unable to secure an agreement with Newcastle.
Diaz isn’t the only player that Liverpool are currently looking to sign a contract extension with at the moment.
Football Insider revealed that the club are willing to sit down to discuss Virgil van Dijk’s position on a new contract as his deal expires next summer.
