Alabama’s Mark Sears named first-team All-American by Sporting News
Sporting News announced its 2024-25 College Basketball All-America Team on Wednesday, and Alabama guard Mark Sears was selected as a first-team All-American by the outlet.
During the regular season, Sears averaged 19.2 points and 5.0 assists per game in his final year at Alabama. Sears has scored 20 or more points in 18 games this season, including a trio of 30-point performances in SEC play. The Muscle Shoals, Alabama native enters the SEC Tournament ranked No. 7 on the Tide’s all-time scoring list with 1,854 points.
Last year, Sears was recognized as a second-team All-American by Sporting News. He is the third Alabama player under Nate Oats to receive All-American distinction by the Sporting News, joining Brandon Miller (Second Team, 2023) and Herb Jones (Third Team, 2021).
Sears and Alabama faced seven of the other 14 players on Sporting News’ 2025 All-America Team during the 2024-25 season – eight if you count a preseason game against Memphis.
Sporting News is one of four outlets used to select consensus teams, along with the Associated Press, National Association of Basketball Coaches and United States Basketball Writers Association.
