Quality was the watchword as Brenan Rodgers spoke to Sky Sports about his expectations for the summer transfer window.
It isn’t a new theme from the Celtic boss but after what most would term a window of ‘project signings’ last summer it seems obvious that the Irishman is setting different expectations for business over the coming months.
As Celtic entered the business end of the season there was barely any involvement from the summer signings with Marco Tilio and Kwon Hyeok-kyu moved out on loan in January.
Gus Lagerbielke was set to join Lecce on loan until he was required to stay on at Celtic following a January injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers.
At the start of March Celtic announced that Mark Lawwell was leaving his role as Head of Scouting and Recruitment, since then there has been no club announcement over a replacement or restructuring.
Rodgers sounds very sure on his plans for the summer although bringing in a replacement for Joe Hart is the only position that is specifically mentioned.
The Celtic boss also discusses the natural cycle of a squad being three years which runs back to Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at the club.
Under the guidance of the Australian, Celtic enjoyed two exceptional transfer windows, setting supporter expectations with an emphasis on experienced, first team ready players.
