Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney should not expect to be lifting the League One title in 2024/25, according to one Wrexham expert.
The Hollywood duo have enjoyed great success since they purchased Wrexham in February 2021.
After spending 15 years in the National League, Phil Parkinson secured the Red Dragons promotion back into the football league in 2022/23.
Wrexham spent just one year in League Two, winning automatic promotion into the third tier this past season.
Now, the Welsh outfit are aiming to make it three promotions on the spin and are currently on course to win the League One title.
Wrexham take on Leyton Orient this weekend and go into that game sat top of the division, level on points with Birmingham City.
However, Opta have predicted where Wrexham will finish 2024/25 and it’s not good news for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with their team tipped to finish 9th.
Now, a Wrexham expert has informed the Americans why the club will not end the current campaign as League One champions.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney told why Wrexham will not win League One
Wrexham were not expected to be challenging for promotion going into this season.
But after a run of one loss in seven, they are right up there in the promotion mix.
McElhenney was in attendance when Birmingham City beat Wrexham 3-1 last week and they are also going to be battling it out for top spot this term.
And now, speaking on the Rob. Ryan. Red podcast, The Athletic’s Wrexham reporter Richard Sutcliffe has explained why the club will not win League One, stating that first place will be going to Birmingham City.
He said: “I thought they will be top-six. Top one’s going to be gone. I don’t see anybody but Birmingham.
“A friend of mine was reporting at Rotherham and the lad who got the third goal from Celtic, absolutely ran that midfield again and you think, he’s going to be like a cheat code this season in League One.
“Stansfield up front, Alfie May behind, 20 odd goals both in the last two seasons. So they are going to be away and gone.
“But second place, it could be one of those where second place is up for grabs.”
Who will challenge Wrexham for second place in League One
Assuming Birmingham do go on to win League One, which is not a far-fetched assumption given they spent £20m on just one player over the summer, Wrexham still have a lot of competition for second place.
Bolton Wanderers narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship in 2023/24 but they have started the current season in dismal form, sitting 19th in the table going into the latest round of fixtures.
Instead, a number of new contenders are emerging to battle Wrexham for second place.
Barnsley are third in the division and only three points adrift of Parkinson’s side right now, as are Charlton Athletic.
Lincoln City beat Wrexham to the signing of Bailey Cadamarteri during the 2024 summer transfer window.
And though the Sheffield Wednesday loanee is struggling at his new club, Lincoln as a squad are flying and will be just two points off Wrexham if they win their game in hand.
