The Las Vegas Raiders got some bad news yesterday about star wide receiver Davante Adams. But what initially appeared to be a slight tweak could keep him out of the starting lineup for several weeks at least.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Adams “pulled up lame” during practice on Thursday. He has since been diagnosed with a hamstring injury and is now considered “week-to-week” with the injury.
“Davante Adams pulled up lame in the closing minutes of the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice Thursday, grabbing his hamstring with an injury that is expected to sideline the star wide receiver on a week-to-week basis, league sources told ESPN,” Schefter wrote.
“The Raiders didn’t try to pretend that Adams could play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, ruling him out Friday in a sign that this could turn into a multi-week absence.”
NFL fans don’t seem convinced that this is a legitimate injury though given how frustrated Adams has seemingly been with the team all year. Many believe that Adams is just flubbing the injury in order to get traded and will instantly heal up once he moves:
“This dude wants to get traded,” one user replied on X.
“Soon as he’s traded that hammy be 125%,” wrote another.
“East coast weather and atmospheric pressure might be best for him,” a New York Jets fan suggested
The Jets are widely seen as the most popular destination for Adams given his strong ties to quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Whether he’s faking the injury or not, the timing of it is certainly noteworthy. The NFL trade deadline is about four weeks away and the Raiders might be sellers this year.
