Arnaut Danjuma spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Everton and has been linked with Liverpool in the past
Former Everton winger Arnaut Danjuma has revealed he would be open to signing for Liverpool after previously coming close to working under Arne Slot.
The Dutchman was heavily linked with a move to Anfield during the summer of 2022, having faced off against the Reds for Villarreal during the Champions League semi-final first leg match between the clubs, though ended up staying in Spain.
Quizzed on a possible transfer to Liverpool at the time, Danjuma said: “I never actually confirmed interest from Liverpool because the only one who confirms that to me is my team, I haven’t heard anything from my team and as it stands I’m enjoying my football at Villarreal, I’m really happy there at the minute. “There’s definitely unfinished business for me in England. The reason why I joined Bournemouth initially was for me to play Premier League football.”
This wish came true last summer after agreeing a season-long loan to Everton, though things could well have turned out differently for the 27-year-old. In conversation with De Voetbalkantine, Danjuma admitted he almost joined Feyenoord and spoke to Arne Slot about the possibility of making this happen.
“I have always had interest from Dutch clubs here and there, yes,” he shared. “But this year it has mainly been other clubs. The year before, Feyenoord had shown a bit more interest in me. That was mainly when Arne Slot was the coach there. I considered it at the time and spoke to Slot. I am a fan of his style of play and have a lot of confidence in him as a coach. But I thought at the time that it was not the right step for me. I think Girona is also a good step now, which suits my career.”
Now on loan at Girona in La Liga, Danjuma refused to rule out the idea of finally linking up with Slot by signing for Liverpool. Commenting on this prospect, he said: “As a player you have to be ambitious and if a big club comes, you should always consider it. I think there will be few people at the table who will say no to Liverpool.”
